Eight Mile Plains Open Doubles Event

Today marked the beginning of a new rivalry. Doubles champion Mao and Chio squared off with the up and coming stars of tennis: Fung and Cao. Both teams have been in form which was immediately shown through the very tight score. Despite the quick serves shown by Fung, he was not able to capitalize and was broken twice. The scores were level until Fung and Cao had the chance to seal the match however, due to Mao's persistence he managed to pull off several telstra hotshots which eventually led to Fung's unforced error into the corner. The scores were level at 5-5. Fung and Cao once again took advantage of Chio's sore arm and continued striking shots into her corner however, her determination got the better of them eventually forcing the game into a tie break. Fung and Cao decided to use the method of intimidation and continued to pump their fists into the air after each point. Although this was very unsportsmanlike, the strategy worked and the debutants eventually came away with a win. They celebrated by using their racquets as guitars and thanked the capacity crowd.
